WhatRoofer? ("we", "us") is a free quote comparison service for roofing work. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site, what we do with it, and your rights over it.

What we collect

• Quote requests: your name, email address, telephone number, postcode, and the answers you give about your roofing job.
• Contact messages: your name, email address and the content of your message.
• Technical data: standard server logs (IP address, pages visited) used for security and to keep the site working.
• Advertising data: if you arrive via one of our adverts, the ad click reference and the search keyword and campaign that brought you here, stored alongside your quote request.
• Form analytics: anonymous records of how far visitors get through the quote form, so we can improve it. These aren't linked to your name unless you complete a request.

How we use it

• To pass your quote request to approved roofing companies covering your postcode — a maximum of 3 companies — so they can contact you and quote for your job. This is the entire purpose of the service.
• To respond to messages you send us.
• To measure which of our adverts and search keywords lead to genuine quote requests, so we spend our advertising sensibly.

How we make money — and what that means for your data

We're open about our model: roofing companies pay us a fee for the introduction when we pass them your quote request. That fee is how the service stays free for you — it never changes the prices you're quoted. The only parties who ever receive your details are the roofers quoting your job (a maximum of 3), and only so they can contact you about that job. We never pass your details to marketing companies, list brokers or anyone else, and the roofers are not permitted to use them for anything beyond quoting your work.

Our lawful basis

We process your details to take the steps you request — obtaining quotes for your roofing job — and with your consent, which you give when you tick the agreement box on the quote form. You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting us.

How long we keep it

Quote requests are kept for up to 12 months (the period your quotes remain valid), after which they are deleted or anonymised unless you ask us to remove them sooner.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us at any time to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop processing it. To exercise any of these rights, use the contact form and we'll respond promptly.

Cookies

We use Google's advertising tags to measure which of our adverts lead to quote requests. These set Google cookies that identify the ad click (not you personally) so we know, for example, which search term brought you here. We don't run any other advertising or tracking cookies, and we never use cookies to build a profile of you or sell data to anyone.
